This organization operates critical infrastructure connecting multiple stakeholders in the pension and insurance sector across Europe. We're seeking a Senior Java Engineer who excels at understanding and evolving complex, mature codebases while driving architectural excellence.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of core components within a Java-based platform handling complex insurance processes
• Analyze existing architecture to understand dependencies, patterns, and business logic across large codebases
• Develop and implement strategies for modernizing software architecture while maintaining system stability
• Design, build, and maintain high-quality, scalable Java applications and services
• Guide and mentor engineering colleagues on architectural best practices and clean code principles
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to translate complex requirements into sustainable technical solutions
• Drive initiatives to improve code quality, reduce technical debt, and enhance system performance

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in Java development with deep expertise in Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot
• Proven ability to quickly understand and effectively manage large, complex codebases—you see the bigger picture and derive architectural insights from existing systems
• Excellent understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and industry best practices
• Strategic thinking with the ability to develop and execute long-term plans for code evolution and modernization
• Passion for refactoring and improving existing systems while ensuring stability and performance
• Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and the complete software development lifecycle
• Comfort working in dynamic, agile environments with continuous process improvement
• Strong collaboration and mentoring skills
