We are representing a confidential insurance technology organization based in München. Our client is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to take ownership of critical platform components and drive architectural evolution across their mature codebase. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives on understanding complex systems and implementing sustainable modernization strategies.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of core components within a Java-based platform serving enterprise clients
• Analyze and understand existing architecture, dependencies, and business logic across large codebases
• Develop and implement robust strategies for evolving and modernizing software architecture
• Design, build, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable Java applications and services
• Guide and mentor fellow engineers on architectural best practices and clean code principles
• Collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate complex requirements into sustainable technical solutions
• Drive initiatives to improve code quality, reduce technical debt, and enhance overall system performance

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in Java development with deep expertise in Spring Framework, particularly Spring Boot
• Proven ability to quickly understand and effectively manage large, complex codebases with a strategic, big-picture perspective
• Excellent understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and industry best practices
• Strategic thinking capabilities with experience developing and executing long-term plans for code evolution and modernization
• Demonstrated success refactoring and improving existing systems while ensuring stability and performance
• Solid understanding of databases, APIs, and the complete software development lifecycle
• Ability to thrive in dynamic, agile environments with continuous process improvement
• Strong collaboration and mentoring skills
