About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential IT infrastructure provider seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer with deep Linux expertise. This role focuses on managing enterprise Linux environments, advancing automation capabilities, and ensuring operational excellence within ITIL frameworks. You'll work with cutting-edge infrastructure and contribute to AI-driven operations initiatives.
This position is available in Nuremberg with remote options within Germany.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain Linux-based customer systems, services, and applications in production environments
- Ensure adherence to ITIL/ITSM processes and service level agreements
- Participate in rotating on-call duties and shift systems with the operations team
- Develop and enhance Ansible-based automation for rollout, patching, and provisioning
- Leverage AI infrastructure for operations automation and AI-Ops initiatives
- Identify and eliminate repetitive manual processes through automation
- Plan and execute changes independently within ITIL change management frameworks
- Communicate with customers during maintenance windows and incident resolution
- Coordinate with internal teams (service desk, delivery, change management) and external vendors
What We're Looking For
- Completed vocational training as IT specialist for system integration or application development, or comparable qualification
- Extensive professional experience with Linux operating systems and related services
- Deep, multi-year expertise with OS-level and middleware components including Apache, Tomcat, JBOSS, nginx, exim, Postfix, MySQL/MariaDB/Galera, PostgreSQL
- Multi-year hands-on experience with one or more Linux distributions (Debian, RHEL, SLES, Ubuntu)
- Solid understanding of container technologies and proficiency in scripting languages (Perl, Python, Bash)
- Strong knowledge of ITIL processes, particularly Incident, Change, and Problem Management
- Curiosity about AI and AI agents in IT operations; initial experience in this area is desirable
- German language proficiency required for customer communication
