About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential renewable energy organization seeking a Senior EV Field Service Engineer to support their growing electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the UK. This is an early-stage technical role with significant scope for career development, including the potential to help build and lead a local engineering team as operations expand.
Based in the Milton Keynes area, this position requires approximately 60% travel, with around three days per week spent on customer sites throughout the United Kingdom. You will serve as a trusted technical partner, delivering both remote and on-site support to ensure reliable operation of EV charging solutions.
Responsibilities
- Proactively monitor commissioned EV chargers remotely to identify and prevent potential issues before they impact operations
- Diagnose and resolve charger malfunctions, communication failures, and electrical, electronic, or control-system faults using advanced diagnostic tools
- Troubleshoot communication interfaces with local inverters, energy meters, onboard controllers, and customer SCADA systems
- Implement proactive maintenance actions including remote reboots, configuration changes, and firmware updates to maximize fleet availability
- Coordinate commissioning activities for new EV chargers, aligning with customer requirements and providing clear remote guidance
- Plan and execute on-site commissioning alongside installers, electricians, platform technicians, and other stakeholders
- Integrate EV charging systems into customer infrastructure, including local grids, EMS controllers, OCPP backends, and shared-meter configurations
- Lead on-site troubleshooting for complex technical issues and perform component replacements in compliance with electrical safety regulations
- Identify and document recurring quality issues, contributing field insights to support continuous product improvement
- Maintain accurate customer, service, and issue records in internal management systems
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on experience in electrotechnical or electrical engineering with strong practical troubleshooting and analytical capabilities
- Genuine interest in green technology and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking with experience using command-line tools for network diagnostics
- Experience with OCPP and Modbus-TCP communication protocols (highly desirable)
- Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams to diagnose system performance and identify faults
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or professional statistical-analysis software; Linux knowledge is a strong advantage
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical customers
- English proficiency at B2 level or above; additional European languages are advantageous
- Must be based in the United Kingdom with the ability to travel extensively across the country
- Existing right to work in the UK is required; visa sponsorship or relocation may be considered for exceptional candidates
