Senior Director, Clinical Research – Neurodegeneration

Responsibilities

Our talent team is representing a confidential biopharmaceutical organization in their search for a Senior Director, Clinical Research specializing in neurodegeneration. This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge, MA or Maidenhead, UK.

In this position, you will serve as the strategic clinical leader for programs focused on neurodegenerative diseases, with primary emphasis on Huntington's disease development. You will drive pipeline progression through all stages of clinical development while maintaining operational excellence across trials.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Providing strategic clinical leadership and serving as the authoritative voice for assigned programs
• Developing innovative yet pragmatic drug development approaches to secure global regulatory approvals
• Overseeing trial conduct, patient safety, and monitoring compliance with protocols
• Consulting with research teams on clinical development feasibility of novel targets and proof-of-concept study design
• Collaborating across matrix teams including Regulatory Affairs, Biostatistics, Clinical Operations, Preclinical, Commercial and Quality Assurance
• Ensuring accountability for all clinical timelines and deliverables
• Leading preparation and review of regulatory submissions, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentation materials
• Providing final sign-off on controlled documents including protocols, investigator brochures, and informed consent forms
• Representing the organization at regulatory interactions and scientific meetings

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• MD with strong research background or MD/PhD, with documented peer-reviewed publications
• Board Certification or equivalent specialist training highly desirable
• 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience or equivalent clinical academic experience
• Proven track record leading Phase 2/3 clinical programs
• Experience with major Health Authority interactions
• Strong understanding of clinical trial design, biostatistics, and regulatory practices
• Demonstrated sound scientific and clinical judgment
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills for complex medical concepts
• History of effective problem-solving with balanced, realistic assessment of issues
• Exceptional leadership and collaboration abilities within matrix organizations

Preferred qualifications:

• Drug development experience in neurology, particularly Huntington's disease
• Experience partnering with biotech/pharma organizations
• Comfort operating in entrepreneurial biotech environments
