Senior Platform Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential edtech organization seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help shape infrastructure strategy from design through production operations. You will work with product squads to provide direction on feature work while ensuring reliability, security, and cost efficiency across the platform.

In this role, you will:

• Architect and optimize cloud infrastructure: Design scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions. Shape long-term infrastructure strategy and implement Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD best practices.
• Build comprehensive observability: Implement monitoring, alerting, and distributed tracing capabilities. Champion the adoption of SLOs, SLAs, and SLIs across engineering teams.
• Lead incident response: Serve as incident lead for platform operations, coordinate response efforts, facilitate blameless post-incident reviews, and ensure follow-up actions are completed.
• Develop automation frameworks: Create scalable automation solutions that streamline engineering workflows and eliminate repetitive manual tasks.
• Mentor and advise engineering teams: Act as a technical advisor, provide guidance on platform tooling, and raise the technical capability of colleagues across the organization.

What we're looking for

Essential qualifications:

• Systems design expertise: Ability to take ambiguous problems, define solution options, make trade-offs explicit, and document clear technical designs.
• Programming proficiency: Strong experience in Python and/or Bash for automation and tooling development.
• Infrastructure as Code: Proven expertise with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
• Cloud platform experience: Solid background with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
• Production Kubernetes: Hands-on experience operating, upgrading, networking, and debugging Kubernetes clusters under production load.
• Reliability and security focus: Demonstrated ownership of production service reliability including defining SLIs, incident response, and implementing security practices such as access control, secrets management, patching, and backup/recovery.

Beneficial experience:

• Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools in everyday engineering work
• Understanding of infrastructure cost optimization and ability to build business cases for spending decisions
• Strong collaboration skills with experience mentoring others and making pragmatic technology choices
