(Senior) Controller / Finance Business Partner (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization in Hamburg seeking four Finance Business Partners to drive the next phase of growth. In this role, you will own financial stewardship for one or more core business areas, working directly with leadership to translate data into action.

Your responsibilities include:

• Serving as Finance Business Partner for key business units, collaborating closely with departmental leaders on strategic decisions
• Managing KPIs, budgets, and P&L performance, ensuring deviations are identified early and addressed proactively
• Analyzing profit margins down to product, channel, market, and cost-center levels to identify concrete levers for improvement
• Building forecasts, scenario analyses, and business cases that transparently show the financial impact of different decisions
• Leading budget and annual planning processes, evolving them into dynamic steering instruments
• Challenging cost developments and evaluating structures for efficiency, scalability, and profitability
• Developing management reporting, dashboards, and early-warning systems in partnership with finance and data teams
• Connecting operational KPIs to financial outcomes, creating transparency around where the organization earns, loses, or should invest capital
• Supporting liquidity planning, cashflow management, and working capital optimization
• Analyzing inventory, purchasing, payment terms, and capital deployment to improve cash conversion cycles
• Building out controlling processes with focus on automation, standardization, and digitalization
• Partnering across leadership, finance, accounting, data, and operational teams

What We're Looking For

• Completed degree in Business, Finance, Controlling, Economics, or comparable qualification
• Several years of experience in controlling, FP&A, or finance business partnering
• Background in e-commerce, direct-to-consumer, retail, fashion, consumer goods, or fast-growing environments is highly valued
• Deep understanding of P&L structures and ability to explain which operational decisions drive financial changes
• Fluency with concepts like contribution margin, cashflow, working capital, forecasting, and business case development
• Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets with ability to analyze large datasets efficiently
• Experience with BI tools, ERP systems, and automated reporting is a strong plus
• Analytical precision balanced with ability to reach clear recommendations quickly
• Willingness to challenge numbers rather than simply accepting them
• Ability to explain complex financial matters clearly to non-finance stakeholders
• Independent working style, ownership mentality, and comfort in fast-decision environments with clear performance metrics
• Excellent German and strong English language skills
