Senior Benchmarking Researcher

D-Wave Quantum is seeking a Senior Benchmarking Researcher to join our team in Burnaby, Canada. This is a full-time role focused on advancing quantum computing performance evaluation and analysis.

About the Role

As a Senior Benchmarking Researcher at D-Wave Quantum in Burnaby, you'll lead the development and execution of rigorous performance evaluation methodologies for quantum systems. This role combines research rigour with practical application, positioning you to influence how the industry measures quantum computing progress. You'll work at the intersection of quantum physics, computer science, and performance analysis, contributing original insights that define benchmarking standards for quantum hardware and algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement comprehensive benchmarking frameworks to evaluate quantum processor performance and compare algorithmic approaches
• Conduct detailed performance analysis and interpretation of quantum computing systems, documenting findings for technical and non-technical audiences
• Collaborate with hardware engineering and product teams to identify performance bottlenecks and optimisation opportunities
• Develop novel metrics and methodologies for assessing quantum advantage and real-world applicability
• Publish research findings and contribute to peer-reviewed technical papers advancing benchmarking practices
• Mentor junior researchers and contribute to team knowledge development

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience in quantum computing research
• Demonstrated expertise in quantum algorithms, quantum hardware, or quantum systems performance evaluation
• Strong statistical analysis and experimental design skills
• Proven track record of publishing research or technical contributions in peer-reviewed venues
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in scientific computing (Python, C++, or similar)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to present complex technical concepts clearly
• Collaborative mindset with experience working in interdisciplinary research teams
