Senior Backend + Infrastructure Engineer (Platform)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded data infrastructure platform serving enterprise clients across multiple continents. Our client is building the next generation of data quality and monitoring solutions used by Fortune 500 companies and high-growth technology organizations. They need a Senior Backend + Infrastructure Engineer to join their Platform team in France.

This is a backend engineering role first—you'll spend most of your time designing and building Java services that power a multi-tenant SaaS platform. The infrastructure component means you own the full path to production on AWS and Kubernetes, not that you're doing traditional DevOps. You ship features and ensure the platform scales to handle billions of datasets.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust backend services and APIs in Java for a multi-tenant SaaS environment
• Ship product features end-to-end, working directly with product managers and end users to shape solutions
• Improve reliability, performance, and scalability of services you own, carrying them through to production on AWS/Kubernetes
• Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, and observability systems that keep the team shipping quickly
• Enhance development systems that support AI-assisted coding: fast CI feedback, reliable dev environments, and guardrails for safe deployment
• Drive architectural decisions from service design through platform evolution

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years building backend software at a product company, with experience designing, building, and owning production services
• Strong Java expertise including APIs, async processing, concurrency, and performance tuning
• Solid SQL skills in backend contexts: schema design, query optimization, production migrations (MySQL and ClickHouse experience valued)
• Architectural judgment—you understand how API and service design choices impact data flow, query patterns, latency, and failure modes
• Production experience running services on Kubernetes and AWS (EKS, IAM, networking, RDS, S3)
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD, GitOps, and infrastructure-as-code (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD/Flux, Terraform or Pulumi), plus solid scripting abilities
• Observability practices: metrics, logging, tracing (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), and comprehensive testing
• Experience shipping production code with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) while maintaining high quality standards
• Ability to work independently in a distributed, async team environment
• Fluent English

Nice to have:

• Multi-tenant SaaS experience at scale; high-growth startup background
• Python skills (relevant to the data engineering stack)
• Regulated-environment experience (ISO27001, SOC2)
• Experience building AI-powered features or agentic workflows into products
• Background in data quality, data management, observability, or ML monitoring

Work Environment

Pay

The client offers €85,000-120,000/year plus equity. Compensation is provided directly by the hiring organization upon placement.
