Join General Motors as a Senior AI/ML Engineer specializing in Future Sensing and Embodied AI in Tumwater, Thurston County. We're hiring a full-time senior engineer to help design and deploy machine learning systems that power the next generation of vehicle intelligence and autonomous capabilities.

About the Role

As a Senior AI/ML Engineer on our Future Sensing and Embodied AI team at General Motors, you'll develop and optimize machine learning models that enable vehicles to understand, perceive, and respond to the world around them. This is a hands-on technical role where you'll work across the full machine learning lifecycle—from research and prototyping through production deployment—on systems that directly impact vehicle safety, autonomy, and user experience.

What You'll Do

  • Design, train, and deploy computer vision and sensor fusion models for real-time vehicle perception systems
  • Develop machine learning pipelines that process multimodal sensor data (camera, radar, LiDAR) to enable embodied AI capabilities
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and embedded systems teams to integrate ML models into production vehicles
  • Optimize models for inference performance, latency, and efficiency on automotive hardware and edge devices
  • Research and implement state-of-the-art techniques in deep learning, reinforcement learning, and autonomous systems
  • Establish best practices for model validation, testing, and continuous improvement in safety-critical environments
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards across the AI/ML organization

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of professional experience in machine learning engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role
  • Proven expertise developing computer vision, deep learning, or sensor processing systems at scale
  • Strong proficiency in Python, C++, and modern ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch); experience with production ML infrastructure
  • Demonstrated experience deploying ML models to edge devices or embedded systems with strict resource constraints
  • Deep understanding of automotive systems, autonomous vehicles, or robotics—embodied AI applications a major plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts to cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent professional experience
