Research Director (Freelance)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential content marketing technology client seeking a Research Director on a freelance basis. This is a unique opportunity to lead research projects that transform data into compelling narratives for major brand clients. You'll spearhead the research function for both internal publications and client-facing deliverables, working in a lean, agile environment that reimagines traditional market research methodologies.

This starts as a temporary part-time engagement with strong potential to expand in scope and hours as projects evolve.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end project management for corporate research initiatives, coordinating subject matter experts, data analysts, designers, and editors
• Conceptualize and author key research deliverables including research briefs, survey profiles, and comprehensive research reports
• Design and administer research surveys, partnering with external organizations to gather marketing and research data using existing and custom data models
• Conduct direct client interactions (in-person and virtual) to gather research findings, review results, and consult on business challenges
• Perform market analysis, customer segmentation, and develop target audience personas to inform content marketing strategies
• Collaborate with research analysts to ensure timely delivery of results and reports to client stakeholders
• Deliver ad hoc consulting projects including benchmarking, go-to-market assessments, and research presentations to internal and external audiences

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience with consumer research including quantitative and qualitative survey development, analysis, and deriving actionable business insights
• Familiarity with marketing research platforms and tools across traditional and digital channels (TV, radio, print, display, search, mobile metrics)
• Strong client-facing presentation skills with comfort presenting to executive-level audiences and identifying needs through strategic questioning
• Demonstrated ability creating reports and dashboards that deliver insights in formats suitable for diverse audience types
• Experience with measurement plans, campaign testing, market mix modeling, ROI analysis, and media evaluation
• Track record managing teams and collaborating across functional areas with varied personality styles
• Proven ability to build trusted advisor relationships with internal partners and external clients
• Strong analytical skills in synthesizing disparate data sources into clear business recommendations and actions
• BA/BS in statistics, economics, or market research required; MBA or Master's degree preferred
