About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential pensions consultancy seeking an experienced Pensions Project Manager to join their growing project management team. This is an excellent opportunity to lead and deliver high-profile client-facing and internal pension change projects across medium to large defined benefit schemes.
In this role, you will manage a diverse portfolio including GMP equalisation, buy-in/buy-out readiness, benefits rectification, scheme mergers, wind-ups, and other pension change initiatives. You will collaborate with colleagues across multiple business lines, clients, administrators, actuaries, and external partners on complex, high-stakes pension projects.
Our client offers flexible hybrid working with just one day per week in the office. You can be based in London, Reigate, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, or Edinburgh.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of DB pension projects including GMP equalisation, buy-in/buy-out readiness, benefit rectification, liability management, scheme transitions, mergers, and wind-ups
- Apply pensions technical knowledge and consulting skills to proactively guide project teams toward optimal outcomes
- Develop detailed project plans, monitoring frameworks, and governance structures
- Provide day-to-day project management, working closely with project teams and external stakeholders to deliver milestones within scope and budget
- Lead and document project calls and facilitate planning workshops
- Drive high-quality client project delivery, operational efficiency, and effectiveness
- Conduct continual project improvement reviews and ensure thorough tranche reviews at appropriate milestones
- Maintain active project documentation including risk logs, action plans, and project plans
What We're Looking For
- Strong working background in UK Defined Benefit pensions with solid knowledge of DB scheme operations, legislation, and technical project areas
- Experience with GMP rectification/equalisation, buy-ins, buy-outs, and wind-ups
- Background in actuarial project teams, pension administration projects, or pensions consulting is highly advantageous
- Proven track record of successful project delivery and client-facing experience
- Prince 2 qualification or similar (APM, PMP, CSM) or willingness to obtain certification
- Clear, concise, and confident communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience facilitating and leading project meetings/workshops with effective note-taking
- Proactive and assertive management approach to drive project outcomes
- Strong stakeholder management experience
