QA Engineer – Quantum Computing (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential quantum-computing organization seeking a QA Engineer to take full ownership of quality across their software platform. This is a greenfield opportunity where you will define testing strategy from the ground up.

In this role, you will:

• Design and own the end-to-end testing approach for the platform, determining what to test, at which levels, and why based on risk analysis
• Create comprehensive test concepts from scratch covering unit, integration, system, and end-to-end testing, then implement them as automated, maintainable code
• Build and maintain test automation frameworks integrated directly into CI/CD pipelines using your chosen tooling
• Perform exploratory and manual testing where automation is not appropriate, clearly understanding the boundary between the two
• Establish quality gates, coverage expectations, and bug-reporting practices that the entire engineering team can adopt
• Collaborate with backend, platform, and hardware teams to test critical interfaces where software meets physical systems
• Elevate the testing literacy of the engineering organization so quality becomes a shared responsibility rather than a final checkpoint

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3+ years in software quality assurance with demonstrated ownership of test strategy, not simply executing predefined scripts
• Proven ability to design test concepts for unfamiliar systems by selecting appropriate test levels, techniques, and priorities from first principles
• Strong programming skills (Python preferred) sufficient to build and maintain automation independently without relying on record-and-playback tools
• Hands-on experience with open-source testing frameworks such as pytest, Playwright, or Selenium, and integrating tests into CI/CD environments
• Solid foundation in testing fundamentals including test design techniques, the test pyramid, API testing, and knowing when to automate versus test manually
• Tool-agnostic, generalist mindset focused on selecting the right approach for each problem
• Ability to collaborate effectively with experimental physicists and engineers
• Strong adaptability and quick learning capability
• Good proficiency in English, both written and spoken

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience establishing a QA function or test strategy in an early-stage or greenfield environment
• Background testing distributed systems, APIs, or cloud-native services
• Performance, load, or security testing experience
• Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop or laboratory control-software testing
• ISTQB certification or equivalent theoretical grounding that you actively apply in practice
• Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
