Principal Software Developer (f/m/d) – Market Data

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization in Frankfurt am Main seeking a Principal Software Developer to join their Market Data team. This role sits at the critical intersection of business operations and technical infrastructure, focusing on high-performance data processing solutions that serve institutional clients globally.

Our client operates in the financial indices space, requiring exceptional accuracy, performance, and availability. You'll work on real-world engineering challenges involving data pipeline architecture, resilience strategies, and scalable solutions using modern cloud technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement sophisticated projects to advance data processing pipeline capabilities
• Build and evolve a unified data landscape serving as the single source of truth for business-critical information
• Engineer robust ETL processes handling multi-asset class financial data
• Develop high-performance APIs and streaming solutions for client and vendor integrations
• Serve as internal technical consultant for data tracking, storage, and access optimization
• Define best practices for data management, failover strategies, and service reliability
• Mentor development team members on architecture and implementation approaches

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of software development or data engineering experience, including at least 5 years of in-depth Python expertise
• Strong software engineering fundamentals: microservice architectures, design patterns, Liskov's Substitution Principle, dynamic dispatch
• Proven database experience with SQL/NoSQL systems (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL), including schema design and ORM frameworks like SQLAlchemy, JPA, or Hibernate
• Cloud-native development experience, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• CI/CD proficiency: ability to define build pipelines, validate deployments, and monitor production systems
• Docker containerization skills following Twelve-Factor App methodology
• Command-line Git proficiency and version-control management practices (Gitflow, trunk-based development)
• Strong technical mentoring and communication abilities
• Full professional proficiency in English
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Mathematical thinking and ability to model business domains as structured systems is highly valued
