Principal Power Systems Engineer (Distribution Management Systems)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential client in the power systems sector seeking a Principal Power Systems Engineer focused on Distribution Management Systems. In this role, you will:

• Lead implementation of control systems at electric utilities that improve operational efficiency of modern grid infrastructure while ensuring contract requirements and specifications are met
• Lead and participate in design, planning, and execution of distribution management system projects
• Provide technical direction to engineers during project execution phases
• Install and configure advanced distribution management applications including Distribution Power Flow (DPF), Fault Location Isolation & Service Restoration (FLISR), and Volt/VAR Control & Optimization (VVC/VVO)
• Lead testing events with utility customers and coordinate cross-functional collaboration
• Interface with utility Geographic Information System (GIS) teams to extract, translate, and load electrical network models
• Configure and integrate software components to meet contract specifications and conduct customer testing
• Train customers on system operations and provide ongoing technical support
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues on live production systems

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience
• 8+ years of experience in a similar Application Engineering role
• Strong understanding of Electric Distribution Power Systems and modeling (Load Flow Studies, Coordination Studies, Arc Flash Studies)
• Programming and scripting experience with C and Python
• Database and data structure knowledge including SQL, XML, MongoDB, and GIS systems
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex systems and software applications
• Knowledge of system designs, computer systems, engineering practices, and control systems
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work within tight timelines
• Willingness to travel approximately 25% on average
