Patient Care Tech-GI Surgical Oncology 12E Full-time Nights

This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient care during night shifts while working alongside experienced medical professionals in a leading academic medical center.

What This Role Involves

As a Patient Care Technician on our gastroenterology surgical oncology unit, you'll be at the heart of patient support, assisting our nursing team in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to patients undergoing treatment and recovery. Working nights, you'll build strong relationships with patients and staff while maintaining the standards of excellence Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is known for. This role combines hands-on patient assistance with attention to clinical detail in a specialty surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with activities of daily living including hygiene, grooming, and personal care needs
• Monitor and report vital signs and patient observations to nursing staff
• Help prepare patients for procedures and support patient comfort during care transitions
• Maintain clean, safe patient rooms and ensure equipment is properly organized and functional
• Support patient transport and assist with mobility and positioning as needed
• Respond promptly to patient call lights and assist with requests during night shift hours
• Document observations and contributions to patient care according to facility protocols

Who We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED required
• Patient Care Technician certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations
• Physical ability to lift, transfer, and support patients safely
• Comfort working night shifts in a fast-paced specialty surgical environment
• Understanding of HIPAA confidentiality and commitment to patient privacy
• Compassion, reliability, and genuine interest in supporting patient recovery
