Mid-Senior Backend Engineer – NL Startup

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential payments technology startup based in Amsterdam. Our client is building automation tools for online merchants and has recently completed a successful funding round. They are now expanding their engineering team in Greece through their local employment partner.

This is an early-team engineering role with significant technical ownership. You will work as an embedded member of the core product team, building integrations and platform features that go from concept to production quickly. This position offers the opportunity to shape technical decisions and grow alongside the company as it scales.

Responsibilities

• Design and build API integrations connecting merchant systems including e-commerce platforms, payment providers, fulfillment tools, and customer support systems
• Develop backend features for the core platform used by internal operations teams
• Own your work end-to-end from design through deployment in a modern cloud environment
• Implement AI-powered automation features to reduce manual processing requirements
• Contribute to infrastructure and CI/CD practices

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong Python skills with hands-on experience using FastAPI or comparable frameworks
• Experience with cloud platforms, ideally Google Cloud Platform
• Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Proven experience integrating third-party APIs and building reliable data pipelines
• Comfortable working independently in fast-moving, small team environments
• Professional working proficiency in English

Preferred:

• Production experience implementing AI/LLM automations beyond AI-assisted coding tools
• Understanding of data warehousing concepts and tools like BigQuery
• DevOps experience including infrastructure as code (Terraform) and deployment pipelines
• Exposure to e-commerce or payments domains
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field

Employment will be through the client's Greece-based partner company on a full-time, indefinite contract with a 3-month probation period. The role is fully remote from Greece.
