About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential higher education organization in a search for a Manager, Business Performance & Analysis. This is a remote position supporting institutional performance intelligence and decision-making at the executive level.
Our client operates across multiple campuses and programmes, requiring sophisticated analysis to connect fragmented data sources and deliver actionable insights. You will work with senior leadership to transform institutional information into clear, decision-ready intelligence.
Responsibilities
You will produce quantitative and economic analysis underpinning submissions to executive and board leadership, including scenario work, unit economics, capacity and cost modelling, and baseline scenarios for decision-making.
A central function of this role is taking fragmentary, inconsistent and incomplete inputs from multiple sources and producing one defensible view, with areas of remaining uncertainty explicitly named. You will interrogate requests to clarify the actual decision that needs support and propose the most useful analytical questions.
You will maintain relevant external evidence including comparator institutions, sector benchmarks and published research. Assumptions must be stated explicitly, and you will publish data gaps rather than substituting proxies without disclosure.
Communication responsibilities include designing presentations so key findings are immediately visible, determining appropriate formats (written memo, decision brief, chart, dashboard, model walkthrough or verbal briefing), and writing for senior readers with limited time by leading with findings and supporting with evidence.
You will support development of automated workflows for data extraction, reconciliation and reporting. This includes using AI-enabled tools and scripted workflows to accelerate recurring tasks while applying judgment to validate outputs and identify where automation should not replace human review.
Additional duties include coordinating engagement requirements against planning and reporting calendars, preparing briefing materials, tracking actions and commitments, and maintaining document repositories to support continuity and transparency.
What We're Looking For
Required experience:
- 6 to 8 years of relevant professional experience producing analysis that informs senior-level decisions in a research institution, consultancy, financial institution, policy body, university or comparable analytical function
- Economic reasoning evidenced by training or practice, with ability to think in terms of opportunity cost, marginal effects, incentives and counterfactuals (degree in economics or experience in consulting, policy research, financial analysis or quantitative discipline)
- Demonstrated ability to turn complex analysis into concise executive communication including decision briefs, presentations and dashboards
- Working competence in Python or R for data analysis with evidence of building analytical workflows requiring limited manual intervention
- Practical experience using AI-enabled tools including large language models, agents or scripted workflows to improve analytical productivity and automation
- Demonstrated ability to take incomplete and conflicting inputs from multiple sources and produce a single defensible view
- Ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar subject areas and build sufficient domain understanding for effective analysis
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working across functions with different data sources, priorities and perspectives
- Exposure to executive, board or committee reporting
Key competencies:
- Analytical reasoning: breaking down complex questions and determining required analysis
- Data interpretation and judgment: analyzing information critically and assessing what can reasonably be concluded
- Economic and financial acumen: understanding opportunity cost, cost behavior, revenue and financial implications
- Modeling and forecasting: building scenarios and sensitivity analyses for planning
- Digital and AI fluency: using analytical and automation tools while independently validating outputs
- Executive communication: distilling complex analysis into clear findings and recommendations
- Judgment: recognizing what matters and making sound calls with imperfect information
- Constructive challenge: questioning assumptions and raising material concerns objectively
- Ownership: taking responsibility for analytical quality, timeliness and usefulness
- Collaboration: working effectively across finance, data/IT, academic and professional functions
