Machine Learning Researcher

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential quantitative trading firm seeking a Machine Learning Researcher to join their London office. In this role, you will build and train deep learning models that power trading strategies, working with a large-scale computing infrastructure featuring thousands of high-end GPUs.

Your day-to-day work will involve diving deep into market data, tuning hyperparameters, debugging distributed training performance, and studying model behavior in production environments. You will work closely with engineers and traders to architect systems and run trading strategies, tackling the unique challenges of large models and nonstationary datasets in competitive multi-agent environments.

Beyond model development, you will shape the future of machine learning at the organization by hiring new colleagues, attending conferences, and teaching techniques to teammates. You will help build fundamental understanding needed to tackle new markets and situations while contributing to the next generation of deep learning-based trading strategies.

What We're Looking For

Our client welcomes candidates from both industry and academia who may not have previously considered finance. The ideal candidate brings:

• Practical experience working on empirical ML problems
• Strong logical and mathematical thinking applied to diverse problem domains
• Intellectual curiosity and knowledge of state-of-the-art research across ML problem domains, including LLMs, image models, RL agents, recommendation systems, or classical ML methods
• Fluency with a versatile set of models and techniques
• Hands-on coding skills in Python and your preferred ML framework, with the ability to rapidly implement and iterate on ideas
• Eagerness to ask questions, admit mistakes, and continuously learn
• Fluency in English
