Machine Learning Engineer – Inference Maintainer & Developer Experience

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential computer vision platform that is experiencing rapid growth in its open source ecosystem. Our client maintains one of the most widely-used inference engines in the CV space, relied upon by tens of thousands of developers deploying models from cloud to edge devices.

The challenge: contribution volume is accelerating—particularly agent-generated PRs—and the current weekly release cadence is becoming unsustainable. This role exists to architect and implement an agentic-driven contribution pipeline that enables daily releases while maintaining rigorous quality standards.

You'll serve as the technical steward of this critical infrastructure, building automated review and testing systems, defining contribution standards that both humans and agents must follow, and becoming the internal and external voice for how teams can leverage the platform most effectively.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain an agentic-driven contribution pipeline including automated review, triage, and CI/CD to safely scale from weekly to daily releases
• Design and expand a comprehensive, world-grounded test suite that validates build health nightly across all deployment targets (standalone and on-platform)
• Define and enforce review standards and contribution protocols, encoding sound engineering judgment into automated systems
• Streamline the process of integrating new computer vision and ML models into the inference engine
• Maintain the health and quality of the core open source inference project as contribution volume scales
• Enable internal Field Engineering and Support teams through training, documentation, and tooling so they can serve customers more effectively
• Collaborate with marketing and field teams to translate technical capabilities into user-facing content, demos, and launch materials
• Contribute to and grow the open source community around the project

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building and operating production-grade ML systems, ideally involving large-scale deployment of modern AI models
• Deep understanding of computer vision model internals, deployment across diverse environments, and real-world adaptation for high-impact applications
• Proven ability to build with AI coding agents fluently—not just for feature development, but to automate engineering processes including review, triage, testing, and CI
• Strong computer science and systems background with ability to independently solve complex architecture and reliability challenges
• Hands-on experience building or substantially improving CI/CD pipelines, release engineering, and test infrastructure
• Practical expertise with ML technologies such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, ONNX, TensorRT, or model deployment tools like vLLM
• Strong proficiency in image and video processing using tools like OpenCV, DeepStream, Pillow, PyAV, or hardware-accelerated video decoding
• Excellent communication skills with ability to teach, write clearly, and collaborate across engineering, support, field, and marketing functions
• High agency, bias toward action, and motivation to own outcomes rather than just inputs
• Open source maintenance experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated track record of asking "How can I improve this?" and following through, even beyond strict role boundaries

Pay

The client's salary range for this position is $155,000 - $180,000 depending on experience level and location, with potential for exceptional candidates to exceed this range. The role is based in the USA with remote flexibility.
