Linux-Systemadministrator (m/w/d) | Hybrid in Freiburg🌄

Responsibilities

We are representing a growing technology organization in Baden-Württemberg that develops hardware and software solutions for industrial applications. They are seeking a Linux System Administrator to join their deliberately compact IT team and help shape the future of their open-source infrastructure.

In this role, you will:

• Own and optimize the Linux system landscape, network infrastructure, and overall IT environment
• Drive the strategic evolution of IT systems by migrating legacy applications to suitable open-source alternatives
• Work with virtualization and container technologies including Proxmox, Docker, and vSphere
• Automate processes and workflows using Python, Ansible, and similar tools
• Advance cybersecurity and resilience initiatives, addressing technical requirements around NIS 2, GDPR, CRA, and TISAX
• Maintain and expand an internal Linux-based AI server infrastructure to support secure internal artificial intelligence usage
• Provide second and third-level technical support for primarily technical users on complex IT issues
• Collaborate directly with leadership on technical decisions and long-term IT strategy

What We're Looking For

Our client needs someone who wants to design and build, not just maintain existing systems. The ideal candidate brings:

• Completed training as an IT specialist, system administrator, degree in computer science, or comparable qualification
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience focused on Linux administration after completing formal education
• Strong, hands-on Linux expertise—you should already be working confidently with Linux systems
• Solid understanding of network technology, protocols, and IT infrastructure
• Experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere
• Skills in automation using Python, Ansible, or comparable technologies
• Enthusiasm for open-source solutions and interest in building a long-term IT landscape on open, secure platforms
• Fluent German at C1 level minimum and strong English communication skills
• Independent, pragmatic working style with genuine interest in actively shaping technical decisions and experimenting with new solutions as part of a team
• Knowledge of Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, or Ceph is advantageous
• Prior experience with IT security is a plus

This is a hybrid position based in Freiburg, Baden-Württemberg, typically requiring in-office presence with one day per week remote work, though additional remote arrangements may be possible by agreement. The role offers flexible working hours without fixed core times and 30 days of annual leave.

Pay

The client offers a base salary starting at €60,000 gross annually with willingness to significantly exceed this based on qualifications and experience, plus a performance-based annual bonus that has reached several thousand euros in successful years.
