Responsibilities

We are representing a growing technology organization in the industrial automation sector, and we're seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to help shape their technical infrastructure. In this role, you will:

• Manage and optimize the Linux system landscape and associated network infrastructure
• Lead migrations from proprietary software to suitable open source alternatives
• Work with virtualization and containerization technologies including Proxmox, Docker, and vSphere
• Automate processes using Python, Ansible, and comparable technologies
• Develop and enhance cyber security and resilience measures, addressing technical requirements around NIS 2, GDPR, and TISAX
• Maintain and expand an internal Linux-based AI server infrastructure for secure internal use
• Provide second and third-level technical support for primarily technical users

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a Linux professional with genuine expertise and passion for open source solutions:

• Completed apprenticeship as IT specialist, IT systems administrator, degree in computer science, or comparable qualification
• Minimum two years of professional experience with clear focus on Linux administration after completing your education
• Strong Linux proficiency—you already work routinely with Linux and don't need to learn the basics
• Solid understanding of networking, network protocols, and IT infrastructure
• Experience with virtualization or container technologies such as Proxmox, Docker, or vSphere
• Knowledge of automation using Python, Ansible, or similar technologies
• Enthusiasm for open source and interest in building a long-term IT landscape on open and secure solutions
• Fluent German (minimum C1 level) and fluent English
• Independent, pragmatic working style with desire to actively shape technical decisions and try new solutions with the team
• Advantageous: experience with Nextcloud, Open Xchange, Nginx, pfSense, OpenVPN, Git, Ceph, or IT security

This position is based in Freiburg with hybrid work options (typically one day per week remote, with flexibility for additional remote work by arrangement). The role offers considerable creative freedom within a deliberately small IT department with direct access to leadership and short decision-making paths.

Pay

Our client offers a competitive base salary starting from €60,000 annually, with willingness to pay significantly above this depending on qualifications and experience. Additionally, they provide a performance-based annual bonus that has reached several thousand euros in successful years. All compensation details will be discussed during the screening process.
