Java Architect

Playtech is hiring a Java Architect for a full-time remote position based in Sofia, Bulgaria. This role offers the opportunity to lead architectural design and technical strategy for large-scale Java systems within a dynamic global software organization.

In this remote Java Architect role, you'll define the technical direction of enterprise-grade applications and oversee the design of complex distributed systems. Working from Sofia, you'll drive architectural decisions that shape the platform landscape, influence technology choices, and ensure solutions align with both current needs and long-term business objectives. This position demands someone who can move fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on technical problem-solving.

Your Responsibilities

• Design enterprise Java solutions that support scalability, performance, and maintainability requirements
• Lead architectural reviews and establish standards for system design across development teams
• Evaluate emerging technologies and frameworks within the Java ecosystem to identify improvements
• Mentor and guide engineers on architectural principles and best practices
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical roadmaps
• Identify and manage technical risk and ensure sound integration patterns across the platform

Qualifications

• Deep expertise building and evolving enterprise Java applications at scale
• Demonstrated experience designing distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Strong foundation in design patterns, system performance tuning, and cloud technologies
• Proficiency with modern Java frameworks and the broader ecosystem
• Excellent communication skills and comfort bridging technical and business conversations
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or demonstrated equivalent experience
