Roper St. Francis Healthcare seeks a skilled Lab Histotechnologist to join our pathology laboratory team in Charleston. As a full-time Histotechnician, you'll play a critical role in preparing tissue specimens for diagnostic examination, supporting physicians in delivering accurate patient care across our healthcare system.

About the Role

The Histotechnologist is responsible for the complete processing and preparation of human tissue samples destined for pathological analysis. Working Monday through Friday, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM, you'll master multiple preparation techniques and maintain strict quality standards that directly impact patient diagnosis and treatment decisions.

What You'll Do

  • Receive, log, and track tissue specimens according to laboratory protocols
  • Operate automated and manual tissue processors to prepare samples for analysis
  • Embed processed tissues into paraffin blocks with precision and consistency
  • Use microtomes to cut thin, uniform sections from tissue blocks
  • Apply specialized staining techniques and prepare slides for microscopic review
  • Perform quality control checks on prepared slides and tissue blocks
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshooting routine issues
  • Document specimen processing and maintain accurate laboratory records
  • Follow OSHA and laboratory safety protocols and use personal protective equipment correctly
  • Collaborate with pathologists and laboratory staff to meet daily testing volume

What We're Looking For

  • Certification as a Histotechnician (HTL) or equivalent credential preferred
  • Demonstrated experience processing tissue specimens in a clinical pathology setting
  • Strong knowledge of histological techniques, staining procedures, and microtomy
  • Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency operating laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple specimens
  • Reliable, punctual, and capable of working a consistent early-morning schedule
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced healthcare environment
