About the Role
As the Insurance Billing Supervisor, you will help plan, organize, and direct departmental services in coordination with the Patient Financial Services (PFS) Manager, working within budgets, objectives, and regulatory standards set by DNV, hospital administration, and payer requirements. You will oversee the full insurance billing function — from claims submission through follow-up and denial management — guiding staff toward accurate, timely processing that maximizes reimbursement.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate organization-wide billing services and continuously assess and improve departmental performance.
- Monitor team productivity and quality, including Epic work queues, to ensure prompt and accurate claim resolution.
- Build and lead a quality assurance program featuring audits, productivity tracking, and performance reporting in partnership with the System Manager.
- Analyze data on billing, denials, and underpayments to surface trends and drive process improvements.
- Partner with the PFS Manager, Contract Specialist, and Compliance team to resolve payer issues and escalate concerns.
- Approve account adjustments within set thresholds and maintain compliance with payer regulations and internal policy.
- Lead recruiting, onboarding, and performance reviews, supporting staff growth through coaching and feedback.
- Advance training and operational enhancements alongside Revenue Cycle leadership.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience (Bachelor's preferred).
- Three years of medical billing and claims experience plus one year in a supervisory capacity.
- Knowledge of electronic healthcare payment transactions and background in healthcare administration, revenue cycle, or accounts receivable.
- Regulatory familiarity with PPS and CAH hospital, Provider-Based, Free-Standing Clinic, and Swing Bed billing.
- Epic billing system experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills, with sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to manage deadlines in a demanding setting.
