Head of Technology (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential telematics and industrial IoT organization based in München. This is a rare leadership role where you'll take full ownership of a proven, revenue-generating platform that serves critical infrastructure clients across the DACH region—including energy providers, logistics operators, healthcare facilities, and security organizations.

You'll inherit a mature system handling emergency alerts, asset tracking, and real-time communications—where reliability isn't optional. GPS in steel structures, mobile networks dropping during emergencies, field devices that must remain updatable for years: these are real engineering problems with real consequences. The entire stack runs through one technical hand, from embedded firmware through network protocols to control center software.

After a structured 12-month handover from the current lead developer, you'll direct the Product & Technology function with full architectural authority. The foundation is stable and certified; your mandate is growth—new verticals, expanded platform capabilities, international markets, and mobile applications.

Responsibilities

• Own the complete technical roadmap and architecture decisions for the platform
• Lead the Product & Technology department, reporting directly to executive leadership
• Determine what stays, what modernizes, and what gets built new
• Shape new products and use cases on the existing platform infrastructure
• Manage customer projects end-to-end: effort estimation, device integration, location-based services (TCP/UDP, XML), and go-live
• Ensure compliance with industrial standards (DGUV, DIN VDE V 0825, CE marking)
• Conduct root-cause analysis and resolve operational incidents in production systems

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Three or more years professional Java development experience
• SQL and relational database expertise
• Daily proficiency with Git version control
• Proven ability to develop and debug communication interfaces (TCP/UDP, XML)
• Experience estimating project scope and negotiating with technical stakeholders on the client side
• Leadership capability and entrepreneurial mindset
• Fluency in both German and English (business negotiation level)

Valued but not required: Android, JavaScript, Linux, Windows Server, Tomcat, networking fundamentals, GPS systems, cellular M2M connectivity, embedded firmware, Informix, or familiarity with industrial product standards.

Pay

The client offers €70,000–90,000 per annum based on experience. Compensation flows through standard employment with the hiring organization. Additional benefits include 28 days paid leave, direct reporting line to executive leadership, and significant autonomy during the growth phase.
