About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential space technology organization in München that is building scalable production systems for high-precision technical products. Our talent team is seeking an experienced Head of Production to take full ownership of production operations, quality, delivery performance, and the development of a robust, KPI-driven manufacturing system.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will establish clear accountability structures, drive continuous improvement, and build a production organization capable of supporting rapid growth in a demanding technical environment.

Responsibilities

• Full accountability for production output, quality, on-time delivery, and productivity
• Hands-on management of daily operations through active shopfloor presence and leadership
• Build and manage a KPI-based production system tracking plan fulfillment, first-pass yield, scrap, rework, cycle time, and delivery performance
• Structure the production organization with clear roles, responsibilities, decision rights, and escalation paths
• Ensure robust capacity and personnel planning; systematically eliminate operational bottlenecks
• Drive adherence to standardized processes and rigorous process discipline
• Implement Lean Management principles and continuous improvement methodologies
• Lead, develop, and qualify production team members
• Serve as primary interface to Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, Production Planning, and Program Management; represent production interests across the organization
• Provide transparent performance reporting and escalate material risks to C-level leadership
• Ensure production issues are systematically analyzed, clearly owned, and sustainably resolved

What We're Looking For

Professional Experience:

• Several years of leadership responsibility in operational production as Production Manager, Head of Production, Operations Manager, or equivalent
• Experience in technically demanding production environments with high quality and process requirements, preferably aerospace, space, medical devices, automotive, defense, or precision manufacturing
• Demonstrated experience building and scaling production organizations
• Background in low-volume series or serial production with assembly, inspection, and testing processes
• Strong command of capacity planning, production control, personnel planning, and bottleneck management
• Proven collaboration with Quality, Supply Chain, and customer-facing functions

Technical Competencies:

• Deep understanding of shopfloor management and operational production leadership
• Routine experience building and managing production KPIs
• Strong knowledge of Lean Management, continuous improvement, standard work, 5S, problem-solving, and root cause analysis
• Track record improving scrap, rework, cycle time, and on-time delivery
• Solid grasp of quality management, traceability, process discipline, and documented work instructions
• Experience with ERP, MES, or digital production planning systems
• Strong technical understanding of assembly, manufacturing, and testing processes

Education and Languages:

• Completed technical or engineering degree (mechanical engineering, production engineering, mechatronics) OR technical apprenticeship with Meister, Techniker, or equivalent advanced qualification and extensive relevant leadership experience
• Excellent German and English language skills
