About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing industrial technology company operating across the US and Canada that is building the future of predictive maintenance for global manufacturers. Our client is entering a pivotal growth phase and needs a strategic leader to orchestrate their AI capabilities across the organization.

This is the central AI leadership role, reporting to the CEO. You will transform scattered AI experiments into a governed, measurable operating capability while leading the Data Science function. This position demands hands-on involvement, deep technical fluency with modern AI systems, and the ability to connect technology investments to customer outcomes and revenue impact.

The role is fully remote within the United States, with collaboration required during core working hours.

Responsibilities

• Partner with executive leadership to define and execute an AI-native vision, operating model, and multi-year roadmap
• Identify opportunities where AI creates competitive advantage, operational efficiency, and new revenue streams
• Build, lead, and develop teams across Machine Learning Engineering, Machine Learning, and AI Engineering
• Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing data scientists, ML engineers, and AI engineers
• Establish ROI-based goals, accountability frameworks, and technical standards as the team scales
• Run intake and prioritization processes for AI initiatives, clarifying outcomes, data dependencies, and business impact
• Establish governance guardrails for AI tools, agents, model usage, and data access without slowing adoption
• Guide development of physics-based models for reliability intelligence, including anomaly detection and alert quality
• Ensure production ML systems are monitored, repeatable, and operationally reliable
• Drive AI engineering work including agentic workflows and customer-facing experiences
• Partner with Product, Engineering, GTM, Customer Success, and Operations to scope and deliver AI initiatives
• Define measurement frameworks connecting AI investments to customer outcomes, efficiency gains, and revenue
• Maintain clear communication with the CEO, board, and cross-functional leaders on priorities and progress
• Evaluate vendors and tooling; recommend build-versus-buy strategies

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• 10+ years leading AI, machine learning, data science, or adjacent technical teams
• Proven track record setting technology strategy in fast-moving environments and delivering large-scale initiatives
• Experience managing cross-functional teams and partnering with senior executive stakeholders
• Hands-on fluency with modern AI and data science sufficient to scope work, evaluate quality, and challenge assumptions
• Working knowledge of production ML, MLOps, evaluation frameworks, governance, and AI systems lifecycle
• Familiarity with large language models, agentic architecture, and contemporary machine learning approaches
• Strong judgment connecting technical work to customer value, revenue impact, cost control, and risk reduction
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex AI concepts for non-technical executives and inspire technical teams
• Commitment to responsible AI practices including data privacy, bias mitigation, and regulatory compliance
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, AI, engineering, or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, or MBA with technology focus)
• Background in industrial technology, predictive maintenance, manufacturing, IoT, or condition monitoring
• Experience with time-series data, signal processing, anomaly detection, or sensor-driven products
• Experience with AWS, MLOps tooling, cloud data platforms, and enterprise SaaS integrations
