Engineering Manager – Ubuntu Security

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking an Engineering Manager to lead their security engineering team. In this role, you will directly impact the safety and security of millions of users worldwide by addressing emerging threats, developing robust security measures, and protecting critical infrastructure. This is a remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world.

As Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of security engineers responsible for responding to CVEs and vulnerabilities, coordinating efforts across multiple engineering teams, and engaging directly with community and enterprise stakeholders. Your leadership will be instrumental in securing the open-source ecosystem and driving innovation in application and system security.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior level
• Provide technical guidance on vulnerability remediation and lifecycle handling
• Drive the development of new security engineering projects and initiatives
• Collaborate with upstream open source projects on security matters
• Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members
• Identify and measure team health indicators to ensure sustained performance
• Implement disciplined engineering processes and best practices
• Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
• Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects
• Serve as an active member of the security engineering leadership team

What We're Looking For

• Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM field, or compelling alternative experience
• Strong track record of developing and growing engineering talent
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Proven ability to ensure teams deliver timely, high-quality results
• Solid background in software development, including support and maintenance
• Mastery in at least one programming language (Go, Java, C, Python, or similar)
• Deep knowledge and passion for software and application security
• Experience working in agile development environments
• Demonstrated drive for continual learning and going above expectations
• Ability to build trust, relationships, and confidence across teams
• Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel twice yearly for company events, up to two weeks each

Valued but optional: Strong technical understanding of the inner workings of Linux distributions, particularly Debian-based systems
