Embedded & Desktop Linux Systems Engineer – Optimisation

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking an Embedded & Desktop Linux Systems Engineer - Optimisation to join their globally distributed team. This is a fully remote position open to candidates anywhere in the world.

In this role, you'll work across the complete Linux stack—from kernel through GUI—optimizing enterprise-grade Linux distributions for cutting-edge silicon and hardware platforms. You'll collaborate with engineering teams from major silicon vendors to integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements across PC, IoT, and server-class systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement optimal Linux integrations for the latest IoT and server-class hardware platforms
• Partner with silicon vendors and hardware manufacturers to deliver exceptional Linux experiences on their platforms
• Take a holistic approach to system optimization, contributing to technical plans, testing strategies, and quality metrics
• Serve as technical lead on complex engagements involving complete system architectures from cloud to edge
• Help customers integrate applications, SDKs, build device OS images, and optimize applications across embedded, desktop, and server environments
• Work with Linux packaging systems including Debian, RPM, and Yocto
• Collaborate with open source communities to advance platform capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field
• Demonstrated experience with Linux packaging (Debian, RPM, Yocto)
• Strong background working with open source communities and licensing
• Proficiency in C and C++ programming
• Self-discipline and self-motivation to thrive in a globally distributed team environment
• Passion for technology and collaborative problem-solving

Preferred additional skills:

• Experience with graphics stacks
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP/REST)
• Knowledge of security best practices in IoT or server environments
• Excellent communication skills, including public speaking experience
• IoT/embedded experience spanning board and SoC design, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware, OS, and application layers
• Familiarity with Docker, OCI containers, or Kubernetes
