Engineering Manager, Search Engine (all genders)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing global transportation technology company in their search for an Engineering Manager, Search Engine. Our client operates a cutting-edge B2B marketplace platform connecting ground transportation providers across 70+ countries with major online retailers. This is a remote role open to candidates based in the EU.

You will lead a highly skilled senior engineering team responsible for the core search API product—a high-throughput, low-latency system that powers ticket purchasing for millions of travelers worldwide. This role demands both technical depth and strategic leadership as the platform prepares for 10x growth.

Responsibilities

• Manage, lead, and support an experienced team of engineers, providing coaching, alignment, and performance management
• Take ownership of domain health, ensuring high-throughput, low-latency systems remain robust, scalable, and consistently meet performance goals
• Drive profitability and cost optimization, tackling architectural challenges to enable 10x scaling without exponential infrastructure cost increases
• Act as a hands-on technical leader, staying close to code, system design, and architecture in a highly complex problem space
• Make strategic architectural decisions that directly impact company profitability and infrastructure efficiency
• Ensure the search engine meets availability and performance standards for a system used by millions daily

What We're Looking For

• Experienced people leader with a proven track record managing and supporting senior engineering teams
• Engineer at heart—highly technical, hands-on, and capable of understanding and guiding deeply complex system architectures
• Demonstrated experience building, maintaining, and scaling high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems
• Strong business and resource-optimization mindset with ability to make strategic architectural decisions
• Strong programming experience in modern backend languages; excitement to lead new development in Rust or Go
• Extreme ownership mentality over domain health and comfort operating in technically challenging environments
• Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing
• Based in the EU and available for remote work with occasional travel to team meetings
