They are backed by tier-one venture investors and operate at the intersection of search, maps, and AI-driven discovery.

This is a hands-on Engineering Manager role leading the Maps & Search team. You'll own one of the most visible, highest-traffic surfaces in the product—a search service handling approximately one billion requests monthly. This position is for a technical leader who stays close to the code, uses AI tools daily as part of their workflow, and wants to amplify what a small, senior, AI-augmented team can accomplish.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the Maps & Search engineering team through hiring, onboarding, coaching, 1:1s, direct feedback, and career development
• Stay hands-on with code and design reviews, architecture decisions, and complex debugging while maintaining the technical credibility to make smart trade-off decisions
• Own and scale a high-throughput search platform serving approximately 1 billion monthly requests across hundreds of millions of listings
• Deliver the core home search and discovery experience across web and mobile platforms, optimizing for engagement, conversion, and responsiveness at scale
• Drive AI-powered discovery initiatives by partnering across teams to integrate LLMs and intelligent ranking into search and user workflows
• Shape the technical roadmap in collaboration with product and design, translating user needs and business goals into clear technical plans
• Own end-to-end delivery including planning, quality, reliability, SLOs, and incident response

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with meaningful time at senior or staff level
• 2+ years managing engineering teams
• Direct experience working on search, relevance, ranking, or retrieval systems
• Deep expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, and React with full-stack fluency
• Experience designing and operating scalable microservice architectures in cloud-native environments (AWS preferred)
• Strong understanding of GraphQL, event-driven systems (Kafka), and databases (PostgreSQL, OpenSearch or Elasticsearch)
• Proven track record operating high-traffic, low-latency production systems with SLOs, incident response, and capacity planning
• Experience leading high-impact initiatives from concept through production in a SaaS environment
