Engineering Manager – Front-end background (UK)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager with strong front-end development expertise. This hybrid role combines hands-on engineering (approximately 50% of your time) with people management responsibilities, allowing you to stay technically engaged while developing and supporting a talented engineering team.

Responsibilities

Engineering responsibilities:

• Design and implement high-performance, scalable, and responsive user interfaces
• Optimize frontend performance to ensure smooth and efficient user experiences
• Tackle real-time challenges, including concurrent editing resilient to network disruptions
• Translate functional requirements into elegant, simple designs and deliver high-quality code
• Understand product and customer needs in detail, suggesting innovative solutions that deliver maximum value

People management responsibilities:

• Coach up to six direct reports, providing regular guidance and support (typically every two weeks)
• Define clear expectations, collect and deliver feedback, and build career development plans using structured skill leveling frameworks
• Participate in performance-related decisions with other managers, including proposing salary raises and handling under-performance situations
• Optionally lead ad hoc projects to improve engineering processes, such as organizing technical demos or evolving career frameworks

What We're Looking For

• 7-8+ years of software engineering experience working on production products, with demonstrated senior-level technical capability
• At least 2-3 years of people management experience
• Proven expertise with front-end technologies such as TypeScript, JavaScript, CSS, React, Vue, or Angular
• Strong team spirit with a problem-solving mindset and user experience focus
• Humility and willingness to grow, regardless of seniority level
• Located in or willing to relocate to London
