About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential AI cloud infrastructure organization in a critical electrical engineering hire. Our client is rapidly scaling data center capacity across the Americas to support enterprise AI workloads, and they need an experienced electrical engineer to validate power systems feasibility before commercial commitments are made.
This role sits within the Infrastructure Acquisition team—a founding-phase group responsible for securing the land, power, and facility capacity that enables large-scale AI cloud operations. You'll be the electrical engineering voice across site selection, technical due diligence, and pre-construction planning, ensuring every acquisition is grounded in sound power distribution strategy before deals close.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering evaluation of prospective data center sites, colocation capacity, and build-to-suit opportunities across the Americas
- Assess utility interconnection feasibility, substation requirements, on-site generation, and UPS strategies against projected IT loads
- Evaluate power distribution topology, redundancy configurations (N, N+1, 2N), and equipment availability to inform Go/No-Go decisions
- Own technical assumptions for electrical capacity, distribution design, and equipment strategy that feed pre-construction risk registers
- Partner with site selection, development, energy, finance, and delivery teams to ensure electrical scope is validated before construction begins
- Provide technical input on switchgear, transformer, generator, and UPS selection with attention to lead times, vendor constraints, and capex trade-offs
- Establish electrical technical readiness criteria and handoff standards as projects transition from acquisition to construction
- Coordinate with consulting engineers, utility providers, equipment vendors, and commissioning agents to validate executable electrical strategies
- Help build repeatable technical evaluation standards and design criteria as the infrastructure acquisition function scales
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 8+ years of experience in data center electrical engineering, power systems design, or mission-critical electrical infrastructure
- Deep expertise with medium-voltage distribution, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, and utility interconnection for high-density or hyperscale environments
- Strong understanding of electrical capacity planning, redundancy topology, equipment selection, and capital expenditure trade-offs in data center design
- Demonstrated experience evaluating electrical feasibility of sites or facilities prior to commercial commitment
- Ability to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and help build processes where none exist
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical findings to executive stakeholders
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- Authorization to work in the country where you apply
Preferred:
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure development projects
- Familiarity with EPMS/BMS controls integration and electrical systems commissioning
- Experience with utility interconnection agreements and interconnection queue strategy
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or similar professional certification
- Background evaluating colocation or build-to-suit electrical infrastructure in a technical due diligence capacity
