Responsibilities
Our talent team is representing a confidential hardware organization in their search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer I based in Kassel, Hesse. In this role, you will take technical ownership of mechanical systems and assemblies from concept through production.
You will:
- Own mechanical system and subsystem development across the full product lifecycle
- Design durable mechanical solutions for fixed, portable, and mobile systems
- Develop housings, structures, and mounting concepts with focus on thermal performance, weight, stiffness, and environmental robustness
- Apply structural and thermal simulation (FEA, thermal analysis) to guide design decisions and validate concepts
- Take a hands-on role in prototyping, testing, and iterative design improvements
- Solve real-world hardware problems by identifying root causes and implementing practical, robust solutions
- Work closely with electrical, RF, and systems engineers on mechanical-electrical integration
- Collaborate with manufacturing partners on DFM/DFA, material selection, surface treatments, and production processes
- Support qualification activities including temperature, shock, vibration, and environmental testing
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering guidelines
- Act as a technical mentor, sharing knowledge and experience within the engineering team
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Several years of experience in mechanical design and system integration for complex hardware products
- Strong background in mechanical design for harsh or regulated environments
- Experience with structural and thermal simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys, or comparable)
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks or equivalent) and production-ready technical drawings
- Strong hands-on skills and confidence working with workshop tools and prototypes
- Practical understanding of manufacturing processes and design for production
- Proven problem-solving mindset, comfortable debugging real hardware issues
- Experience supporting knowledge sharing, reviews, or mentoring within an engineering team
- Clear communicator who enjoys ownership, collaboration, and technical depth
Work arrangement: This is a hybrid position based in Kassel. The client requires in-office collaboration Tuesday through Friday, with remote flexibility on Mondays.
