The University of Tennessee is seeking an experienced Director of Planning and Design for its Facilities Planning Services team in Memphis, Shelby County. In this full-time, on-site leadership role, you will help shape the future of the university's physical campus through thoughtful, forward-looking planning and design.

About the Role

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Facilities, the Director of Planning and Design works closely with the University of Tennessee Office of Capital Projects (OCP), partnering across the Division of Facilities Planning and the Office of Real Property. This position guides campus planning and design initiatives that support the university's long-term growth, infrastructure, and stewardship of its facilities in Memphis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and design efforts in coordination with the Office of Capital Projects and the Division of Facilities Planning.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Real Property on initiatives that affect university facilities and land use.
  • Provide direction on campus design standards, space planning, and capital project priorities.
  • Support the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Facilities in advancing institutional facilities goals.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver planning and design outcomes aligned with the university's mission.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in facilities planning, architectural design, or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing planning and design programs, ideally within a higher education or institutional setting.
  • Strong knowledge of capital project processes, space planning, and design standards.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across multiple campus offices and stakeholders.
