Field Representative

Seiu Local 1021, representing 60,000 public service workers across Northern California, seeks a full-time Field Representative in SoMa, San Francisco, to advocate for members and strengthen our collective power at the workplace.

About This Position

As a Field Representative with Seiu Local 1021, you'll be the direct connection between the union and our members working across diverse sectors—municipal government, schools, courts, non-profits, and special districts. Based in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood, you'll engage members daily, address workplace concerns, and drive organizing efforts that expand union representation and win better conditions for working people.

Responsibilities

• Conduct member outreach and organize regular listening sessions to understand workplace needs and challenges
• Investigate and resolve member grievances, contract violations, and workplace disputes with employers
• Represent members in workplace meetings and negotiations with management
• Expand union membership through direct organizing in target workplaces and communities
• Facilitate member education on workplace rights, union benefits, and collective action strategies
• Document workplace conditions and gather intelligence to support union campaigns and advocacy

• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities across diverse member populations
• Genuine commitment to worker advocacy and labor rights principles
• Capacity to manage multiple member cases and complex workplace situations effectively
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout San Francisco for member site visits
• Flexible availability, including occasional evening and weekend work to meet member needs
• Strong organizational and time-management skills with demonstrated accountability
