Director, FinOps

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Director of FinOps to lead cloud financial operations on a global scale. In this role, you will:

• Own the centralized FinOps strategy across an international multi-cloud environment, with heavy emphasis on major cloud platform optimization
• Design and maintain sophisticated cost-allocation frameworks for shared cloud resources, translating multi-tenant consumption into transparent product margins
• Manage the financial impact of AI initiatives, overseeing current model consumption costs and building fiscal frameworks for custom model development
• Drive end-to-end management of cloud budgets and third-party hosting licenses through variance analysis and capacity planning
• Serve as primary lead for global vendor relationships, driving enterprise negotiations and strategic partnerships across international regions
• Partner with Finance and Engineering leadership to deliver comprehensive cloud total cost of ownership visibility
• Lead and mentor the FinOps team, fostering technical growth and career development

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 5+ years in technology operations, procurement, or cloud finance
• At least 2–3 years in formal people management or leadership roles
• Proven ability to bridge Finance, DevOps/SRE, R&D, and Product teams while fostering cost-conscious engineering culture
• Production-grade experience with major cloud platforms, including deep knowledge of billing, commitment models, and discount structures
• Track record of operating in decentralized management structures and negotiating high-value international contracts

Technical Expertise:

• Deep expertise across modern cloud ecosystems including container orchestration, serverless compute, storage lifecycle management, and managed databases
• Ability to translate complex architectural configurations into optimized unit economics
• Familiarity with AI/ML cost drivers, from API consumption to model training compute requirements

• Strong stakeholder management across multiple teams and engineering managers
• Adaptability through shifting priorities and evolving technology landscapes
• Analytical problem-solving skills with ability to address complex architectural shifts and cost anomalies
• High-bandwidth communication skills for global collaboration via text and video
