Ready to commit to serving your city this year? City Year is hiring full-time Academic Mentors in Milpitas, Santa Clara County. As a paid, full-benefits AmeriCorps Member, you'll serve as a student success coach, providing direct mentorship and academic support to help students in under-resourced schools succeed.

Role Overview

In this entry-level, full-time position, you'll work as a dedicated academic mentor and student success coach on a City Year AmeriCorps team. Your mission is to support student growth across attendance, behavior, academics, and emotional development. By combining tutoring, mentoring, and advocacy, you'll help young people overcome barriers and build the skills and confidence necessary to graduate and thrive beyond high school.

Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one and small-group academic coaching and tutoring in core subject areas
• Mentor students to build resilience, confidence, and social-emotional skills
• Support improved attendance and school engagement through proactive student coaching
• Work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, and families to align support efforts
• Monitor and document student progress toward academic and behavioral goals
• Contribute to school culture initiatives and whole-school improvement efforts
• Participate actively as a member of a larger City Year team deployed in your school

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
• Genuine commitment to supporting student success and educational equity
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and experiences
• Reliable and willing to maintain a consistent, full-time commitment
• Desire to make a meaningful impact in your local school community
