Cloud Field Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Cloud Field Engineer. This is a fully remote role with global reach, allowing you to work from anywhere while collaborating with enterprise clients on private cloud infrastructure, Linux systems, and cloud-native operations.

In this position, you'll serve as both a solutions architect and hands-on implementer, designing cloud infrastructure that meets complex workload requirements, deploying solutions across OpenStack and Kubernetes environments, and writing Python code to develop infrastructure-as-code solutions. You'll work directly with global enterprise customers, translating their technical challenges into elegant architectural designs, then building and delivering those solutions.

This role suits developers who thrive at the intersection of architecture, customer engagement, and hands-on engineering. You'll move seamlessly between presenting solutions, coaching colleagues, and writing code—all while working across the full Linux stack from kernel to applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect private and public cloud solutions including OpenStack, Kubernetes, Ceph, and related technologies for enterprise customers
• Deploy, test, and hand over cloud infrastructure solutions to support and managed services teams
• Develop Kubernetes operators and infrastructure-as-code using Python
• Work across the entire Linux stack, including kernel, networking, storage, and applications
• Present technical solutions and conduct training sessions for customers and internal teams
• Mentor and coach colleagues, contributing to a collaborative engineering culture
• Travel globally up to 25% of the time for customer engagements and internal events

What We're Looking For

• University degree in Computer Science or equivalent software engineering expertise
• Strong knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies: Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, or similar platforms
• Practical, hands-on experience with Linux and networking fundamentals
• Intermediate to advanced Python programming skills
• Excellent communication and presentation abilities in English
• Strong organizational skills with reliable follow-through on commitments
• Demonstrated passion for continuous learning and professional development
• Enthusiasm for customer interaction and jumping into new projects
• Second language skills are a plus
