Chief Controls Officer (CCO – Controls)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential financial services organization seeking a Chief Controls Officer to lead their enterprise-wide internal controls function. This senior leadership role reports directly to executive leadership and is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive control frameworks that ensure operational integrity, regulatory compliance, and effective risk mitigation across all business functions.

This position is based in Suriname and offers the opportunity to shape governance standards and control maturity at an executive level.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain enterprise-wide internal control frameworks, ensuring controls are effectively documented, implemented, and continuously improved
• Oversee control testing, monitoring, and validation processes; implement continuous monitoring systems and ensure timely remediation of control deficiencies
• Align internal controls with enterprise risk management frameworks and collaborate closely with risk, compliance, and audit teams
• Oversee financial controls including reporting, reconciliation, and revenue controls; strengthen fraud prevention and detection mechanisms
• Develop and maintain control-related policies and procedures; ensure documentation, audit trails, and governance standards meet regulatory requirements
• Leverage technology and automation to enhance control effectiveness through dashboards, monitoring systems, and digital transformation initiatives
• Provide control insights and reporting to executive leadership and Board; collaborate with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders
• Lead and develop internal controls and governance teams; foster a culture of control awareness and accountability across the organization

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
• Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or equivalent highly preferred
• 12–18+ years of experience in internal controls, audit, risk, or compliance roles
• Proven experience in senior leadership positions within banking, financial services, insurance, or investment sectors
• Deep knowledge of internal control frameworks such as COSO
• Strong understanding of risk management, regulatory compliance, and financial and operational controls
• Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities with excellent stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience with IT controls, cybersecurity frameworks, and control automation tools preferred
• Ability to lead enterprise-wide control transformation initiatives in regulated environments
