About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential UK-based technology company expanding their commercial footprint with Chinese consumer brands. This is a hands-on Business Development Manager role focused on building market presence and owning the full sales cycle for opportunities with brands based in China who are growing internationally.

You'll be the primary commercial relationship-builder between markets, creating pipeline through outbound activity, events, and face-to-face relationship development. This includes regular working periods in China of up to 3 weeks at a time, totalling approximately 3 months annually.

The role reports to UK leadership and offers significant autonomy in shaping how the organization approaches this growing market segment.

Responsibilities

  • Build and prioritize a target list of Chinese consumer brands with strong UK or international growth potential
  • Create new opportunities through outbound, WeChat, LinkedIn, email, events, introductions and relevant partner networks
  • Own opportunities from first conversation through discovery, demo, negotiation and close
  • Conduct product demonstrations in Mandarin and English, tailoring the commercial case to each brand's growth objectives
  • Use time in China to meet priority brands in person, attend industry events and develop relationships
  • Manage multiple stakeholders and maintain clear pipeline progression through consistent follow-up
  • Negotiate commercial terms and maintain accurate pipeline and forecast information
  • Support new partners through launch and onboarding where Mandarin language skills or market knowledge add value
  • Share insights about Chinese brands, buying processes, objections and competitive landscape
  • Develop Mandarin-language sales materials, case studies and onboarding assets
  • Test and refine which brands, messages, channels and events generate the strongest opportunities

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent Mandarin and professional-level English required
  • Demonstrated B2B sales, business development or partnerships experience
  • Track record of creating opportunities independently through outbound, networking, introductions or account research
  • Experience progressing commercial opportunities through discovery, demo, negotiation and close
  • Confidence running product demonstrations and commercial conversations with prospective clients
  • Experience building relationships with Chinese businesses and strong understanding of how commercial relationships are developed in China
  • Strong pipeline management skills with clear follow-up, prioritisation and forecasting practices
  • Comfort managing your own territory or pipeline with high level of independence
  • Ability to bridge different business cultures and translate context between UK and Chinese markets
  • Balance of relationship-building adaptability with commercial discipline
  • Experience in ecommerce, retail, affiliate/performance marketing, SaaS, loyalty or related technology is beneficial but not required

Working Pattern: Remote, UK-based with monthly London meetups. Core hours 10am-4pm UK time with flexibility. When working from the UK, you'll work 6am-2pm up to three days weekly to overlap with Chinese business hours. Regular travel to China in trips of up to 3 weeks.

Pay

Base salary £40,000-£45,000 with on-target earnings up to £105,000.
