Business Analyst to UX Research Career Changer

Overview

Our talent team is representing a confidential UX education organization that runs structured apprenticeship programs for career changers and new graduates. This is an opportunity to transition into UX research, UX design, product design, or service design through a comprehensive 7-month remote program with 1:1 mentorship.

The program is designed for individuals from business analysis, project management, or adjacent fields who want to pivot into creative tech roles. Participants complete real-world projects building their portfolios while learning industry-standard methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Commit 5-10 hours per week to complete structured program deliverables over a 7-month period
• Attend weekend lectures (2-3 hours) or complete online video course modules covering the end-to-end design process
• Lead a complete design project from concept to prototype for a startup idea or topic of your choice
• Conduct discovery research including user recruitment, research planning, interview guide development, and synthesis of 8-16 user interviews
• Manage product scoping, feature scoping, and project timelines independently
• Create comprehensive UX deliverables including personas, journey maps, wireframes, prototypes, and design systems
• Lead usability testing sessions and iterate on designs based on user feedback
• Develop business models and go-to-market positioning for digital products
• Deliver compelling UX and business presentations supported by qualitative and quantitative data
• Complete consulting projects with startups based on defined scopes of work
• Actively participate in mentorship sessions and demonstrate openness to feedback and revision

What We're Looking For

• Background in business analysis, project management, or related analytical fields with interest in transitioning to UX
• New graduates or career changers exploring creative tech career paths
• Strong interest in UX research, UX design, product design, or service design
• No prior UX portfolio or specialized resume required—applicants at the very beginning of career exploration are welcome
• Ability to commit consistent weekly hours (5-10 hours) over 7 months
• Availability for weekend learning sessions or self-paced online coursework
• Openness to constructive feedback and willingness to iterate on design work
• Self-directed work style with strong project management capabilities
• Interest in building products and services from concept stage
• Analytical mindset with storytelling abilities for presenting research insights
• Must be located in the United States

Pay

This is an unpaid apprenticeship program. Participants receive comprehensive training, 1:1 mentorship, and portfolio development support at no cost. Program alumni have secured positions with compensation ranging from $85,000 to $130,000 after completion.
