The Opportunity
The U.S. Border Patrol is seeking entry-level candidates committed to a lasting federal law enforcement career that matters. As a Border Patrol Agent at the GL-5/7 grade levels based in Fairfield, Somerset County, you'll perform critical border security operations around the clock, combining strategic presence with sharp judgment to detect, intercept, and respond to border threats. This is a full-time position for those ready to build a federal career centered on meaningful impact and service to the nation.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct border surveillance, vehicle patrols, and foot patrols across assigned sectors
- Detect and apprehend individuals attempting unauthorized border entry or crossing
- Interview and screen persons encountered during patrol; prepare comprehensive incident reports and documentation
- Operate and maintain federal vehicles, communications equipment, and surveillance technology
- Coordinate emergency response with CBP partners and other federal, state, and local agencies
- Work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to maintain 24/7 border security coverage
Qualifications
- U.S. citizen by time of appointment
- Between 21 and 37 years of age at appointment (specific exemptions may apply for veterans)
- Valid driver's license with ability to obtain federal vehicle certification
- Pass extensive background investigation, medical examination, and drug screening
- Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one
- Vision and hearing within federal standards (corrected or uncorrected)
- Strong communication and interpersonal capabilities
- Physical fitness and ability to meet ongoing fitness standards for law enforcement
