Position Summary

As a Border Patrol Agent with Customs and Border Protection, you'll work at GL-5/7 grade levels to enforce federal immigration and customs laws along U.S. borders. This is front-line federal law enforcement work that directly protects national security and public safety. You'll monitor international boundaries, detect unauthorized entries, and respond to security threats with professionalism and vigilance. New hire sign-on and retention incentives are available for qualified candidates.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned border sectors on foot, vehicle, and technology platforms to detect and intercept unauthorized border crossings
• Conduct inspections, interviews, and investigations of individuals and cargo at border control points
• Operate surveillance equipment and communications systems to monitor border activity in real time
• Respond to and resolve border security incidents, detentions, and emergency situations
• Maintain detailed records and prepare reports documenting all enforcement activities
• Collaborate with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies on integrated security operations
• Enforce laws related to immigration, customs, and national security

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Pass a thorough background investigation and security clearance
• Pass medical evaluation and vision and hearing requirements
• Be in excellent physical condition capable of strenuous law enforcement duties
• High school diploma or equivalent; some college or military service preferred
• Ability to work irregular shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Bilingual capability in English and Spanish is highly valued
• Pass drug screening and polygraph examination
