Backend Engineer, Moderation Enforcement

About This Position

Reddit's Moderation team sits at the intersection of community health and platform success. Our mission centers on building powerful tools that help moderators cultivate thriving communities. As a Backend Engineer on this team, you'll work on systems that enable millions of daily interactions across over 100,000 active communities. You'll influence critical product metrics and technical decisions for one of the world's largest platforms while building features that keep our communities safe, engaged, and authentic.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Partner with product managers, designers, and other engineers to transform strategy into shipped features and products that users love.
• Own the complete development process: design technical solutions, write production code, design and run experiments, analyze results, and launch features across millions of users.
• Participate in code reviews, provide thoughtful feedback on architectural decisions, and contribute to design documentation.
• Grow your technical expertise through hands-on learning in a fast-moving environment.

What You Bring

• 2–5 years of professional software development experience in enterprise settings.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Proficiency in Go or Python (required); experience with Rust or Ruby is a plus.
• Solid understanding of API design and implementation using GraphQL, REST, HTTP, Thrift, or gRPC.
• Strong ability to manage priorities, organize complex work, and deliver on schedule.
• Self-starter mentality with an innovative mindset and comfort shipping in uncertain, high-velocity environments.
• Excellent communication abilities and proven success collaborating with distributed teams on intricate technical and business topics.
