Position Summary

As Associate General Counsel for Research and Intellectual Property, you will provide specialized legal counsel on matters central to the university's research mission. In this role, you'll advise faculty, researchers, and academic departments on intellectual property strategy, protection, and compliance. You'll support the development and advancement of innovative research programs while ensuring the university's intellectual assets are properly protected and managed.

Your Responsibilities

  • Counsel faculty and research teams on intellectual property matters, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets
  • Review, draft, and negotiate agreements related to research collaborations, licensing, and technology transfer
  • Provide guidance on IP protection strategies and help researchers understand patent and publication implications
  • Research and analyze intellectual property issues affecting ongoing and proposed research initiatives
  • Support compliance with federal and institutional policies governing research and intellectual property
  • Collaborate with technology transfer offices, faculty leaders, and administrative departments on IP-related matters
  • Stay current with developments in intellectual property law affecting university research

Who We're Looking For

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active license to practice law in the United States
  • Strong background in intellectual property law, with experience in research, university, or innovation settings preferred
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate complex IP concepts clearly to non-legal audiences
  • Experience advising on patent, copyright, and technology licensing matters
  • Detail-oriented, organized approach to managing multiple priorities
  • Collaborative work style with strong interpersonal skills
