Assessment Item Writer/Editor (CONTRACT)

Overview

We are representing a confidential educational technology client who is seeking freelance Assessment Item Writers and Editors to support the development of K-12 assessment products. This contractor position offers variable, flexible hours negotiated on a project-by-project basis, with compensation determined per project.

Responsibilities

• Work independently and collaboratively to create, review, edit, and revise test items based on state standards and grade-level appropriateness
• Meet internal and external deadlines for assessment content delivery
• Execute against blueprints to develop well-rounded assessments that meet customer needs
• Author tech-enhanced items directly within assessment management systems
• Provide constructive feedback on assessment items and overall design

What We're Looking For

• Strong professional assessment writing and/or editing experience, particularly authoring tech-enhanced items directly in assessment management systems
• Strong understanding of well-composed and balanced assessment items and forms
• Ability to write assessment items for students in grades K-12 with deep understanding of Depth of Knowledge, rigor, differentiation, text complexity, and readability
• Deep knowledge of academic standards and designing strongly-aligned assessments
• Subject-matter expertise in ELA, math, science, or social studies
• Experience in education; former teaching experience is a plus but not required
• Experience working with educational publishers is a plus

Pay
