AEO Specialist/Lead (AI / Answer Engine Optimization) – Contractor

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential health and wellness organization seeking an AEO Specialist/Lead to own the execution layer of their AI visibility program. This is a contractor role with flexible hours between 25–40 per week based on workload.

In this role, you will:

• Monitor AI visibility metrics daily, including share of voice, average position, sentiment, and citation performance using industry platforms
• Flag competitive movements and emerging negative sources that could impact rankings or sentiment
• Translate platform data into clear, actionable insights and recurring reports for senior leadership
• Own and maintain the AEO/AI-visibility roadmap, translating agency strategic recommendations into a prioritized execution plan
• Partner with the SEO/AEO agency on quarterly strategy, topic prioritization, and measurement frameworks
• Project-manage AEO initiatives across content, site/ecommerce, PR, and affiliate channels
• Work directly with Product and Dev teams to scope, prioritize, and track AEO-related tickets through competing backlogs
• Apply repeatable citation models across owned and editorial channels for third-party validation
• Identify manual, repetitive workflows and leverage AI tools or automation to scale execution

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 3–5+ years in a technical or analytical marketing role (SEO, growth, content operations, or similar) or demonstrated AI-native track record
• Hands-on SEO experience with a working understanding of how SEO and AEO/GEO overlap and diverge
• Comfort working in AI-visibility or analytics platforms; ability to turn raw data into clear narratives and action plans
• Proven project management experience rallying and holding stakeholders accountable across content, product, development, PR, and agency partners without formal authority
• Ability to operate in complex environments with competing priorities and backlog demands
• Genuine enthusiasm for AI tools and workflows with interest in applying them to scale marketing execution

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with digital PR or earned-media citation building
• Familiarity with ecommerce product page optimization
• Prior experience managing SEO/content agency relationships (agency or client-side)
• DTC, health, wellness, or consumer packaged goods category experience
