Senior Software Engineer

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential energy technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their growing engineering community. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js. You'll work extensively with event-driven systems and message queues to power real-time, reliable features that operate at extraordinary scale.

Your day-to-day will include collaborating with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to build customer-focused solutions. You'll lead by example, contributing high-quality code while mentoring others and fostering engineering best practices across the team. Ownership is key—you'll be responsible for services end-to-end, from architecture through production monitoring and continuous improvement.

You'll optimize system performance and data design, working with both SQL and NoSQL databases as appropriate. The tech stack includes TypeScript, Node.js, Terraform, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Kafka, and GraphQL. You'll leverage cloud platforms, especially AWS and serverless architectures, to build reliable and scalable solutions. Contributing to a positive engineering culture through knowledge sharing and team support is essential.

What We're Looking For

• Solid experience developing backend applications, ideally in TypeScript or a strong willingness to pick it up quickly
• Understanding of event-driven systems and working with message queues
• Strong comfort level with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), especially serverless technologies
• Experience with database design, optimization, and maintenance (SQL or NoSQL)
• Passion for high-quality software and solving real customer problems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with enjoyment of mentoring and knowledge sharing
• Proactive mindset and ability to thrive in ambiguity

This position is hybrid and based in Bristol, London, or Edinburgh. The expectation is three days per week in the office, providing balance between in-person collaboration and flexible remote work. Candidates must have existing right to work in the UK; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: £60,000 - £80,000
